The Long and Short Of It

I love my love hair. I really, really do. But, all of a sudden, I feel the need to change my hair. I've always been jealous of girls who can rock the angled bob, my hair isn't sleek enough, unfortunately. But then I think, I've always said when I cut my hair in the (far off, I thought) future I'd go for an asymmetrical bob. I know what you are thinking, and no it wouldn't be as vulgar as that may sound. Taking a cue from fellow redheads I'm thinking something more like...

Pros:

• A hairstyle like this may classify as "edgy" which would be a refreshing contrast from my borderline twee clothing (let's not kid ourselves here, folks, I may swear like a sailor and drink like one too, but I dress like a cupcake)
• I am in my mid-20s and I don't know how much longer I can rock an "edgy" hairstyle without looking super weird
• Change is the essence of life, n'est pas?
• Short hair is (questionably) easier to take care of
• Would round out my somewhat angular facial features
• I can show off my neckline better (and make my neck look longer? Is this true?)

Cons:

• I won't have long, romantic hair anymore
• Limited hair style options
• Would have to get it cut more often to maintain shape
• Would potentially look awful
• Might have to surrender the Bettie Bangs if they clash with the angled hair.

I think you should try it. Here's my hair theory, it will grow back if you don't like it. I have thick (really thick), slightly wavy hair and have done the angled bob with much happiness. My longer hair is actually easier to style, but short I feel edgier and in control. I can't wait to see what you'll decide to do!

wild, I just wrote about cutting my hair into a short bob too!I'm so scared to take the big risk of what it will look like afterward. Best of luck and keep me posted!

I think you should totally try it! Like others have said...it will grow back. And risk-taking is definitely fun. Plus, I think a shorter style will highlight your cheekbones more! You'll look amazing.

You would look so sweet with a bob!
I kinda have Bette bangs with my bob...maybe I shouldn't, but I love it :D

I'm a hairdresser, so I am going to tell you to go for it! Its only hair! Its an expression of who you are! Who cares if your "to old" for an edgy cut. Tell them to kiss off, you have way more confidence than them, obv!! Hair is about having fun, creating a sense of self & by standing out! For those who say they don't like it, they are only jealous!! (I saw your blog via mousevox vintage.)

GIIIIIIRL I am sort of in the same place. I have been thinking about hacking it all off for something shorter, either a Rihanna look (keeping my red) or an Edie Sedgwick (maybe going blonde).

I don't know if you ever saw me when I had super asymmetrical hair, but I loved it. I kind of miss it. Because of my waves, when I have a bob my hair often does completely different things on the two sides of my head.... Not a problem when one side was shaved. If the sides are supposed to be different, it's sort of daily maintenance relief.

I'd say do it do it do iiiiiiit. It'll grow back. Part of me agrees with the youthful thing, and part of me notes that the most amazing asymmetrical haircut I ever saw was an asymmetrical bob on a librarian in her 50s with silver hair.

That said, I still have a little trepidation myself. I feel like the looks I want will require me to style them daily, whereas the current layers work so perfectly with the natural line of my hair that all I have to do is brush it and it dries perfectly. I'm also not sure how the new styles will work with my very loud glasses.

But yeah, I think you should go forth. It'll show off your magnificent facial structure, and your huge earrings. Make Edie proud!

do it! I cut all mine off a while ago and people thought it was great (and brave!) it grows back super fast from a bob-ish length too....love that Molly Ringwald do.
